Donate A Car: Not Just in the US

A few months ago there was a donate a car program called the Car Allowance Rebate System, also known as "Cash for Clunkers," and it was a very popular initiative by the US government that actually pumped life not only into the US car industry, but into the car industries of other countries. A total of three billion dollars was provided by the federal government to dole out to individuals who were donating cars. You could receive several thousand dollars towards a new car, and so many people jumped at this limited time offer.

The purpose of this program was partially to help get older and more polluting vehicles off the streets, but mainly it was about trying to stimulate the US auto industry. With the Wall Street crash in late 2008, and the subsequent recession, the auto industry took a massive hit as consumers were suddenly faced with unemployment and the loss of their homes; the future seemed very bleak indeed. As a result, larger purchases, like buying a new car, dropped as few people were willing to risk spending so much money.

The "Cash for Clunkers" program did stimulate the US auto industry, but it also helped the auto industries in other countries. Japanese imports saw a big increase as consumers took the money they received from their car donation, and used it to buy imported vehicles. Production of certain American cars that were being manufactured across the border in Canada also saw an increase with the higher demand and this resulted in a boost to the Canadian auto industry as well.

The world has become a very small place and a good example of this was seen with the boost in auto sales that occurred with the "Cash for Clunkers" donate a car program. All the vehicles that were being bought with the cash rebates spurred the industry in America and everywhere else. Countries that exported parts, cars, and labor amongst other things, saw an increase in the demand for their services.

Getting rid of so many used cars in the States' recent donate a car program proved to be an effective way to boost auto sales in America, and provide an increase in car-related industries across the world. The creation of new vehicles involves many different factors and a variety of companies from around the world. When sales in America started increasing, sales in auto industries elsewhere began to increase as well.
